A few weeks ago my pal Rebecca Sinnen sent me some nibs, one of them is the funny looking Inkspoons. These guys are sort of like separate attached-on reservoirs to reduce constant dipping. I was super curious and she was kind enough to send me one!
It is super tiny and really light, to my surprise. Here it is on my hand. It’s really funny looking, and the neck is twisted to the side, I thought maybe I received a broken piece. But really it is shaped that way to fit in an oblique holder flange.
And here it is pushed into a flange, under a Zebra G nib. It was really quite awkward to position it, I tried to make sure it was secure and won’t fall off, and to kind of touch the tip to the nib.. yeah it took some time to get used to it.
And here it is dipped into the inkwell full of walnut ink. I had doubts.. I thought the ink is just gonna spill over but nope, quite a lot is picked up in there! Not too shabby… let’s try it out!
It writes fine! I kind of like it.. and nope I did not have to dip as much as usual. It’s still kind of awkward to use, because it does add weight but it actually works pretty well.
Here is what I wrote with one dip. Not bad! Unfortunately because the reservoir is so big, I have to hold the nib at a higher angle than usual and be careful not to lower it whenever I have to shade, which is my habit.
All in all, it’s a cool little contraption, but I don’t see myself using it much. In fact I haven’t used it again since this review, and can’t think of a time when I would need to… dipping is not that big of a deal for me!
